Cycling Adventure from Jakarta to Paris: Embracing Dreams and Noble Missions
On Saturday, July 8, 2023, Interport Commissioner, Mr. Royke Lumowa embarked on a long-cherished adventure—the cycling journey from Monumen Nasional (Monas), Jakarta, to Paris, France. Sent off by Indonesia's Minister of Home Affairs, Mr. Tito Karnavian, Mr. Royke was ready to face this challenge over 387 days, covering a total distance of 20,620.87 kilometers while passing through 44 countries.
The pinnacle of this journey was achieved on Monday, July 29, 2024, at 11:00 AM local time, when Mr. Royke arrived at Club France, Grande Halle de la Villette. Warmly welcomed by David Lappartient, President of the French National Olympic Committee (NOC) and the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), who expressed: “Welcome to Paris. Welcome to the Paris Olympics.” He conveyed his admiration and respect for Mr. Royke's extraordinary dedication throughout this journey.
This adventure was not merely a personal mission but also carried an important message for the world. With the theme "Cycling Anywhere to Save the Earth," Mr. Royke aimed to foster friendship among nations for global peace, raise awareness for environmental conservation, and promote bicycles as an eco-friendly mode of transport. Additionally, he sought to demonstrate that Indonesia is ready to host the Summer Olympics in 2036 and to promote our country as an attractive tourist destination.
Throughout the 387 days, Mr. Royke faced various challenges, from extreme temperatures to theft. However, faith and divine protection accompanied him every step of the way. Mr. Royke also expressed gratitude not to have fallen ill during this journey, which truly like a miracle.
