Amungme Rugby Club proudly secured second place in both the U16 and U18 categories at the Bali Rugby Club (BRC) Open Tournament 2024, held from October 9 to October 13 in Jimbaran, Bali. In addition, the club also claimed the Runner-Up position in the Plate Category during the open tournament.

Among the notable achievements, Milon Kum and Ronal Beanal, local talents from Tsinga village in Mimika, represented the Bali Rugby Club and contributed to their team's success, earning third place in the U16 category and first place in the U18 category.

These accomplishments are a testament to the rigorous training led by Coach Agustinus Yohanes at Timika Indah and MP21, with the team practicing five days a week.

The BRC Open Tournament serves as a tribute to the victims of the 2002 Bali Bombing. It has gained prestige, attracting participants from rugby-loving countries such as Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Japan, the Pacific Islands, and Indonesia.

Agustinus Yohanes emphasized the significance of this tournament for developing rugby athletes in Mimika. "Through competition, the athletes from Amungme Rugby will learn the proper techniques of playing rugby, especially when facing their seniors. By stepping onto the field, they gain valuable knowledge. We are grateful for their achievements," he stated in a press release received by Seputarpapua.com on October 17, 2024.

John Magal, Chairman of the Amungme Bangkit Generation Foundation (YGAB) and a mentor for Amungme Rugby Club, echoed this sentiment, expressing pride in the athletes' accomplishments despite their recent introduction to rugby. "They are just beginning to learn the sport, yet they have already achieved notable results. With the development of rugby, we hope to elevate the name of Amungme and prove that we can achieve excellence as well," he said.

Looking ahead, Amungme Rugby Club plans to intensify its athlete development efforts, focusing on effective club management. The goal is for the athletes to continue achieving success and to foster a love for rugby within the Mimika community.

The club also extends its heartfelt gratitude to all supporters involved in organizing this event, particularly Interport, PT RUC, and Hotel Cenderawasih, as well as the friends and family whose support has helped Amungme Rugby reach these accomplishments.
